THE MERKEZ CAFE - RESTAURANT

THE MERKEZ CAFE

‘....holiday-makers meet in the town centre at the Merkez Cafe to swap tips & stories about haggling.....’

She Magazine 1998

Our cafe-bar -The Merkez’ - is in the centre of Kalkan & is the oldest cafe in the village:  Opened over 20 years ago as Kalkan’s ‘Khave’, where the village men would have tea & coffee & play backgammon, it was open in the winters when everyone moved back from Bezirgan.

Husseyn Karsak opened & ran it & his sons Fatih, Mustafa & Salih have all worked there since childhood. From the time when the first foreign visitors came to Kalkan it has slowly developped into being the busiest cafe-bar in Kalkan

We are open from 8am for breakfast through until the early hours of the following morning  when the last customers leave sometime after midnight.

All our food - sweet & savoury -  is freshly made on the premises. Turkish börek & other savoury pastries are made in our bakery every morning, as well as traditional Turkish desserts such as Baklava & Sutlac (rice pudding).

We make the biggest selection of sweets & desserts in the village & supply many of the restaurants.  Some of our specialities are almond macaroons, creme caramel, crepes & our Merkez Milkshakes made with ice-cream.

ZEYTINLIK RESTAURANT - THE OLIVE GARDEN

Zeytinlik means olive garden in literal translation & is so called because the family olive groves across the bay can be seen from our roof top restaurant.

We serve only Turkish food, the menu comprises dishes from all over the country rather than only local dishes

The restaurant has two terraces upon the roof & as one of the highest points in the village commands spectacular views.

       Open from 7pm until late.
